Prosthodontics is one of the 13 dental specialisms officially recognised by the General Dental Council (GDC). It is the specialism of restoring natural teeth and creating and placing natural-looking substitute or prosthetic teeth.

While the general dental practitioner is capable of handling most simple crown and bridge procedures to replace and repair missing teeth, when it comes to restoring an entire arch or the whole mouth, the prosthodontist is indicated for this difficult and complex type of dental treatment.
