Prosthodontics

Here at the Mews, the quality of clinical care and of the patient experience is paramount. We have, for many years, treated patients who are perhaps anxious at the thought of dental treatment.

Very few people really enjoy their first visit to a dentist – even one as helpful and caring as Mews! If you suffer from dental phobia or require extensive dental work, you might consider the benefits of dental treatment under sedation.

Prosthodontics

Prosthodontics is one of the 13 dental specialisms officially recognised by the General Dental Council (GDC). It is the specialism of restoring natural teeth and creating and placing natural-looking substitute or prosthetic teeth.

A Prosthodontist is a specialist dentist who has spent an additional three years in full-time postgraduate study. Prosthodontists are trained to comprehensively restore your mouth using specialist knowledge and skills, together with the latest techniques and modern materials.

The prosthodontist’s aim is to fully restore your mouth to optimal function and appearance and, in so doing, help you to maintain your teeth for as long as possible and reduce the need for future dental treatment.

A prosthodontist will usually treat the more difficult dental problems, such as where a patient is missing many teeth or has significant functional or aesthetic problems. While the general dental practitioner is capable of handling most simple crown and bridge procedures to replace and repair missing teeth, when it comes to restoring an entire arch or the whole mouth, the prosthodontist is indicated for this difficult and complex type of dental treatment.

Patients contemplating dental implants or major changes to their appearance should consult with a prosthodontist to ensure they are gaining the best possible dental care. These difficult treatments require the expertise available only through a trained prosthodontist.

Services Prosthodontists provide:

  • Aesthetic Dentistry
  • Implant dentistry
  • Crown and Bridges
  • Porcelain Veneers
  • Complete and partial dentures
  • Tooth wear
It may be worth noting that there is no GDC recognised specialism in cosmetic dentistry, implants, or TMJ. These treatments all fall within the expert field of the Prosthodontist!
